Counselors

Junior, Senior, S.T.E.M Specialist

Camp Six Acres is seeking caring, patient and enthusiastic junior and senior counselors and a S.T.E.M specialist to join our staff and provide a safe and fun environment for campers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Help implement & follow a weekly schedule for your camp group.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and whole group activities each week. Activities include crafts, talent show, group games, sports, swimming, Carnival Day etc.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues appropriately.
  • Ensure that the bunk and site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Communicate with parents about participants’ experiences and report concerns to Camp Directors
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Assist specialty counselors with their activities as needed and help with managing campers.
  • Help guide Junior Counselors to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills
  • Maintain constant surveillance of your campers during their assigned swim time, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately.
  • Help guide CITs to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills
  • S.T.E.M SPECIALIST:
    • Creates and implements a theme related, STEM curriculum with an appropriate amount of choice. Utilizes STEM as a medium to educate and promote healthy activity. Thinks outside of the box.
    • Share lesson plans with directors via google doc.
    • Documents STEM curriculum and keeps examples for following years.
    • Plans and implements recreational and educational programs that emphasize group participation.
    • Creates an active, engaging environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working in camps or with children preferred
  • Willingness to complete First aid and CPR if needed for role before start of camp season
  • Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, swim, lift, or support the weight of children
  • Ability to pass a background check, a physical, and proof of immunizations
  • High level of responsibility and accountability
  • Upbeat, engaging personality
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Lifeguards

Camp Six Acres is seeking attentive lifeguards to join our staff and provide a safe swimming environment for campers.

Camp Six Acres will pay for lifeguard certification training for accepted applicants!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of campers during their assigned swim time
  • Enforce swimming pool and pool area rules to ensure camper safety
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations in the pool and pool area immediately.
  • Organize and help lead swimming lessons (requires additional training)
  • Ensure that the pool area is kept clean, organized, and free of litter and other obstructions.
  • Communicate with Directors about campers’ experiences with swim lessons and free swim and report any concerns in a timely fashion
  • Complete lifeguard certification program before the start of camp season (Camp Six Acres will reimburse for certification or re- certification programs)

Job Requirements:

  • Experienced swimmer
  • Experience working in camps or with children preferred
  • Physical ability to lift or support the weight of children
  • Ability to pass a background check, a physical, and proof of immunizations
  • High level of responsibility and accountability
  • Upbeat, engaging personality
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Lifeguards must turn 16 by the first day of camp
  • LIFEGUARDS MUST BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 5:30 1-2 DAYS PER WEEK FOR EXTENDED DAY SWIM
 

2024 Dates and Hours - All positions

  • Camp runs M-F June 24th - August 16th (closed 7/4).
  • Regular camp hours are 9 AM - 4 PM.
  • Many campers participate in extended hours, starting at 8 am, ending at 5:30 pm. 
  • While camp is in session, all specialists and counselors will work approximately 40 hours per week daily, beginning at 7:45 am, 8:30 am, or 8:45 am.
  • Those 16 years old and older may be given the opportunity to work more than 40 hours per week if desired. Your flexibility and willingness to work different shifts different days/weeks is greatly appreciated.
  • Prior to the camp season (May and early June), specialists will undertake curriculum development, and all staff will participate in occasional mandatory staff meetings and training. 
  • Pay varies with education and experience.

Applicant Information

All staff must pass CORI and SORI background checks.

Camp Six Acres will cover the cost of Lifeguard certification and re-certification as well as First Aid/CPR training as needed for qualified applicants.

Please share any dates you are not available to work. Our camp season runs from Monday, June 24th through Friday, August 16th. Camp will be closed Thursday, July 4th for Independence Day. We will hold staff training prior to camp opening.
